How important are keywords to your web site?

We’re often asked about the use of keywords for search engine optimisation. Feedback at our seminars shows us there is quite a bit of confusion about the topic, and rightly so - technology, strategies and techniques often change so fast it can be hard to keep up.

We commonly hear ”the more keywords the better, steal your competitor’s or use their name in your keywords.” Some spin doctors are out their still preaching 10 year old stories that include ‘black hat’ techniques such as using lots of keywords in the same colour text as the background.

Just this month, Yahoo has announced they no longer look at Keyword Meta tags. Google agrees and says they haven’t used them for a long time. A video was released this September 21st on this matter.   See here for their video on the topic.

So where does this leave people who want to maintain their own site or those who don’t believe in keeping their site up to date? In most cases - at the bottom of the sandpit, unseen!

If you have a serious business, be serious about you web site. Your web site becomes more important to your business every day. Don’t ignore it or leave it to chance.
